Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson was the Rabbi of a small town in russia named Yakatrineslav. he was arrested in 1939 by the KGB since he was comiting a "crime" of spreading Judaism, he was then exiled to Alma Ata, where he passed away at a young age. click here for more info.
